One of the many interesting people I  had a chance chat with at GDC was Joseph Olin, the current president of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. This is Olin’s fifth year heading up the AIAS, which is in its fourteenth year as an organization. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences is the largest group of game developers, publishers and tech companies in existence and was formed to further the agenda of the interactive entertainment industry. The objective of AIAS is to recognize achievements within the industry and to provide an atmosphere that fosters creative growth. This is primarily done through the D.I.C.E Summit – Design, Innovate, Communicate and Entertain – which is held annually in Las Vegas.

AIAS is additionally responsible for the only professionally curated game-art exhibit in the world, Into the Pixel. The multifaceted organization also runs several scholarship programs aimed at encouraging students to pursue careers in game making.
