My friend Ashley I decided to do anime costumes for the 2008 Anime Detour. I usually make comic book or video game related costumes, so I was really excited to step out of my shell and try something different. FLCL was the first anime I ever watched, and Ashley really wanted to dress as Haruko so it seemed perfect for me to go as Mamimi.
It is time for another one of my cosplay features! This time my goal was to bring Zatanna – DC’s most mischievous magician – to life.
This was one of my pre-cosplay costumes, meaning at the time I didn’t even realize that what I was doing was considered costume play. All I knew was that normal fashion photography and modeling didn’t really interest me, so I latched onto any project that seemed a bit out of the ordinary.
Recently I took on a very personal project – recreating one of my favorite Wonder Woman images in a tribute to the late Michael Turner. Read on for costume, concept and shoot details – and of course…photos!
It’s time for another one of my cosplay features! This time I had some creative freedom in fleshing out a feisty aviator by the name of Aetheria Earhart. This costume was fun and challenging at the same time, as it’s not often that I attempt original characters.
Anime has only been on my radar for the past few years – if you don’t count the unavoidable Pokémon episodes I devoured as a kid. While considering what to take on for my first cosplay project, I was also taking my first timid steps into the world of Japanese animation. After watching Chobits at the recommendation of a friend, I knew Chi would be one of my first costuming endeavors.
